Show CUM.S THUMP DUKKS Scott Moffit and Daryl Sconicrs each drove in four runs to lead the Salt Ijke Gulls to a 9 to 4 victory over Albuquerque Sunday in Derks Field. Moffit connected for three straight hits to account for four Gulls' uillies. Sconicrs socked a grand slam home run in the eighth inning to put the contest out of reach. Sconiers walloped a Gil Rondon offering far over the rightfield wall with three mates aboard and the Gulls quickly went from . 5-4 ahead to a safe 9-4 lead. Sconier should have had another homer, this one with one in the fifth inning, but he picked the wrong time as the wind was blowing hard from right to left field in that inning and Sconiers' blow was held in and right fielder Candy Maldonado was able to make the catch on the warning track. John D'Acquisto struggled through the first innine when the Dukes scored three runs and then settled down to record his fifth victory in 14 decisions. Dave Schuler turned in an outstanding relief performance. per-formance. Schuler came on with runners on first and third and got hard hitting Ron Roenicke to hit into a double play in the seventh. Rudy Law scored, but the Albuquerque threat was stymied. |
