Show Workshop offered by Carol Haun On Saturday, August 22, the Uintah Basin Social Services in association with Weber State College presented a workshop on "Child Development" at Bottle Hollow Resort. The workshop was presented by Professor Carol Haun of Weber State College. It was specifically designed to provide training train-ing to local day care providers and other providers of children's services. The morning session focused on guidance techniques for young children. Professor Haun discussed the importance of helping the child have a positive self concept. She stated that , generally a child will behave the way they feel about themselves. If a child feels "good" the behavior will be good. If a child feels "bad" then the behavior will be bad. She also discussed some specific ways to deal with inappropriate inap-propriate behavior. Professor Haun stated, as H&r. opinion, that children do notwantto misbehave, but because, they are irTa'growth spurf'lack in-1 formation", are in an unusual "situation" "situa-tion" or have onmet "needs" they do not always perform as parents wish. By dealing with the area needing attention, the child's behavior will improve. In the afternoon Professor Haun discussed language development in children 0-6 years of age. She discussed ways to maximize the child's learning ability and communication skills. This workshop was presented to providers pro-viders to help them meet the ever growing grow-ing demand by the public for quality services for children. Attending the workshop from Vernal were Linda Leonard, Deb Bullock, Nila Bowler, Rosemary Dudley.
