King's wish came true as the throw to first baseman Frank Young was high and the runner was safe on an error. Lee gained an inside the park homer. 1 ljraiFpl3gfatfGEr Bailers nab ieejcaue tfournsaimB'Btf crown Dave King of the Lamplighter Bailers was a dud in the first game with the Young's Paint crew Thursday as he failed to get a hit due to three fly balls, but King was the king on the diamond for the Lamplighter Bailers Friday night as he connected for a three-run homer which gave his team a 16 to 14 win over Young's Paint in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first championship game. The Lamplighter Bailers won the first place crown in the Vernal Men's Softball League Tournament Tour-nament when they downed Young's Paint 15 to 8 in the second championship cham-pionship game. Young's Paint placed second. The Young's Paint crew grabbed a 2-0 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two run homer by Kevin Huber which drove in Danny Long. Kim Oliverson scored a run in the top of the second inning to increase the Young lead to 3-0. However, the Lamplighter Bailers scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie up the game at 3-3. Duane Merrell, Wayne Reid and Scott Kavanaugh scored runs for the Bailer crew. Young's Paint broke the 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the third inning on counters by Long, Monty Lee and Brad Denver. The Bailer crew cut the Young lead to 6 to 5 with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a two run homer by Arvel Tassainer which knocked in Craig Monson who was walked. A homer in the top of the fifth inning by Brad Denver gave Young's a 7-5 lead. The Lamplighter crew scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Shawn King doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly, but Levi Smuin scored a run for the Young's Paint crew in the top of the sixth for an 8 to 6 lead. A 10 to 8 advantage was acquired by the Bailers in the bottom of the sixth inning. Reid, Kavanaugh, Ted Taylor and Dave King scored for the Bailers in the sixth inning. Kavanaugh and Taylor got on base on errors and King gained a homer. Young's Paint scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 14 to 10 advantage. Long was walked and Lee, Huber singled. Denver gained a triple and Kim Oliverson homered. Smuin tnpled. Long, Lee, Huber, Denver, Oliverson and Smuin scored runs for the Young crew. Now it was time for the Lamplighter Bailers to stage an amazing rally or bite the dust 01 losers. The Lamplighter crew decided to go the amazing rally route. Tassainer singled and Russ Henderson got on base on an error by the seond baseman. Duane Merrell connected for a three-run homer to narrow the Young lead to 14 to 13. Reid was walked and Kavanaugh singled. Taylor reached first base on a fielder s choice when Reid was tagged out at third base. The Bailers' Dave King f lied out in the final inning with a man on base in his team's 12 to 11 loss to Young's Paint and this time King didn t fly out as he collided with the ball for a three-run homer which gave the Lamplighter Bailers a 16 to 14 victory in the first championship game. Young's Paint copied its first inning performance in the first game in the second championship game as Long singled and scored on a two-run homer by Huber which gave the team a 2-0 lead. Gary Monsen and Shawn King scored runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie up the game at 2-2. The Bailers scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 4-2 lead. Kavanaugh led off with a homer and Monsen scored the fourth run. However, Young's Paint gained a 6 to 4 lead with three runs in the top of the third inning by Young, Long, Huber and Reed.
