J. .f i - . r I - . v. i I - ' , '-V I " " S I ' f VICTOR KARREN and Doris Burton (right) show the picture of the grandparents and parents and home in Ashley as painted by western artist Western artist at Uintah County Library Western artist, Betty , Karren-Brakke, Karren-Brakke, will be featuring 16 of her paintings, several of the Uintah Basin, at the Uintah County Library until Sept. 8. Mrs. Brakke is a former resident of the Vernal area living on a ranch on Blue Mountain and attending school in Vernal when in her youth. She is well known among western artists, having been commissioned to Betty Karren-Brakke. It and other paintings are " on display at the library. : t paint a portrait of actor-singer Roy Rogers, one of which was auctioned by the American Cancer Society. The daughter of a rancher, she paints the nigged beauty and proud people that were so much a part of her life. Her work is primarily devoted to life of the old west, character portraits, wild life and nostalgic Americana. "Right now western art is the most popular," commented Mrs. Brakke. She has worked as a restorationist under the guidance of William Yelland, master restorationist, and has restored many of the old masters. She has learned to paint many styles but prefers realism and great detail. Her works are in numerous collections in the West including a painting she did of R. H. Rhoades of the New York Times. |
