Show University women to meet Sept. 1 Members of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women will meet at the Vernal Library Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Women who are college or university graduates are invited to attend. This will be an organizational meeting with planning for charter night, discussing study topics, and nominating officers, the matters of business. Mary Jane Godlove, acting president, comments about the local chapter:- "Several of us who have belonged to chapters in other parts of the country were disappointed to not find a chapter in the Vernal area when we moved here, so have gotten together to organize one. We feel the women of the area will enjoy and benefit from the association with other college educated women and that there are many issues and concerns, particularly with the anticipated growth and development, which warrant study, planning, and action. As college educated women, we have a responsibility to use the knowledge and skills gained in the process of our education to aid our community," For more information, Mary Jane Godlove can be contacted at 789-6793. AAUW was first organized in Boston in 1881 and has grown to nearly 200,000 members from all parts of the country who have joined together to continue their intellectual development begun in college, expand skills and talents, and to find ways of making significant contributions to their communities, and through study and lobbying, effect state and national legislative efforts to aid women. AAUW is a part of the International In-ternational Federation of University Women and has a liason with the United Nations. |
