Show Construction nears on Upalco project The federal repayment contract has been agreed upon and land is being acquired for the $73 million CUP Upalco Unit north of Roosevelt. The purchase of land and land rights for the Yellowstone Ranch have been completed, the repayment rate to the Bureau of Reclamation has been set at 8.605 percent, and construction is about to begin, N. W. Plummer, former bureau regional director, notified the Central Utah Water Conservancy District in a letter to Lynn S. Ludlow, district manager. "We appreciate your assistance and support in finalizing the repayment contract provisions and land acquisition activities this year and are looking forward to working closely with vour district and the Ute Indian Tribe to complete construction of the Upalco Unit as expeditiously as possible," Plummer said. "We are moving forward on the Upalco Unit," Ludlow told the board of directors of the district. Ludlow said 4th District Court has validated the repayment contract between the district and the Bureau of Reclamation and this approval signaled the way for the beginning of the project. The Upalco Unit is located in Duchesne County involving about 43,000 acres of Indian and non-Indian land along Lake Fork River. Major projects include Taskeech Reservoir on the Lake Fork River with a capacity of 78,400 acre-feet of water. "What the reservoir will do is store unappropriated flows of Lake Fork and the Yellowstone River," C. Eldon Laird, public affairs director, said. |
