THE MUDDY TRIP in the Book Cliffs ended on a happy note for hunters, Gary Griffith, Gary Ken- nedy and Morris Brgoch, left to right, Sandy, as ing the opening weekend in the general deer hunt in the Northeastern Region with mainly two points and spikes taken. they each acquired two point bucks during the opening weekend of the deer hunt. v Some hungers nab bucl;s carad some gefi svysEi in mud Some deer hunters were sad and some were happy during the opening weekend of the general deer hunt in Utah as some gained bucks and some did not. Two successful hunters were Don and Dawnette Gibbs of Vernal. "She got a two point and I got a two point buck, Saturday morning at day break on Diamond Mountain. There's not too many people up there because they can't get around. It's too nasty. If you haven't got a four wheel drive you can't do it. I saw a four point after we got these two." Tony Hadlock hadn't nabbed a buck as of 5 p.m. Saturday in the Ashley-Vernal Ashley-Vernal Forest area. Hadlock of Layton remarked, "There's quite a few does around, but the deer have moved out of here. We saw two dead ones. Someone beat us to them. We couldn't get there quick enough. It's the least amount of deer I've seen in here in a long time." Another member of the Hadlock hunting hun-ting party, Gordon Woodbury, Sandy, said, "We had a couple shot out from under us. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a three point." A hunter just across the road from the Hadlocks, George Gonzales of Riverton had a successful hunt on Saturday as he nabbed a two point buck. Gonzales remarked, "We saw a lot of does and the two point was the first deer we saw with a set of horns. We saw one guy shoot a four point. It was a real nice one. I wish it would have come our way. I got my two point about 5 p.m. in Little Brush Creek." Roosevelt hunter, Dennis Ingram said, "I saw only one buck .and he's in the garage. I got a two point on Mosby Mountain. The three of us saw 15 deer and my two point was the only buck." "I saw very few bucks. One guy in our party. John Blake, got a spike on Goslin Mountain. We saw alot of does and fawns," said Gordon Harmston of Roosevelt. "The road was washed out at Clay Basin." Tom Houston of Roosevelt remarked, "I saw a lot of deer, but there were lot more hunters than deer. I hunted in the Mill Canyon area." A four point buck was nabbed by Cliff Mecham. Jr. of Salt Lake City. His father, Cliff Mecham. stated, "Cliff got his buck on Diamond Mountain Saturday Satur-day at 8:20 a.m. There w ere a few other bucks and there were a lot of does and a few elk. All we saw Sunday were a lot of does running. The big bucks were hiding out in the gorges in Little Brush and we couldn't get them out. It was sloppy and there was a lot of snow." Some hunting parties are lucky if they get one buck, but Gary Griffith, Gary Kennedy and Morris Brgoch, Sandy, San-dy, each garnered a two point buck-"Two buck-"Two were gained Saturday and one Sunday. We nabbed them in the northern nor-thern Book Cliffs. We saw four bucks and got three of them. We let a spike go. The roads were real bad" said Brgoch. The hunting party of Dennis Gemmell Sr. and Jr., Dave Guth and Gaylen Walker, Murray, acquired a three point and a two point buck. "The three point was nabbed Saturday at Monument Ridge, which is close to the Book Cliffs. We saw a fair amount of deer," said Walker. A three point buck was shot by the Sherman Sorenson hunting party. "We got our buck at Mosby Mountain. My wife, Dolly, shot it. This is the one buck we saw. We saw quite a few does," said Sorenson, Roosevelt. Russ Montgomery of v. M years old, Monday 1S his birthday by naffi, buck, Monday, on rw,git lever could have got." His daughter, Judy Kraft r.
