Show BYU DECKS SAN DIEGO Jim MaMahon, who missed games against Utah State and Nevada-Las Nevada-Las Vegas, returned to his passing habits as he ripped San Diego State for 249 yards, three touchdowns and guided the Brigham Young Cougars to a 27 to 7 win over San Diego State Saturday. BYU jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half. With a first down, after a 12 yard gain on a draw by tailback Scott Pettis, McMahon jumped to pass to tight end Gordon Hudson over the middle and Hudson lumbered all the way to the Aztec three for a 67 yard play. On the next call fullback Waymon Hamilton bulled over the left side for his ninth touchdown of the year and after Kurt Gunther's extra point it was BYU 7 and San Diego State 0. McMahon hit Hamilton over the left side for 13 yards and McMahon found freshman Glen Kozlowski for 19 more. Hudson made an eight yard reception and Hamilton was on the receiving end of a 20-yard McMahon pass to the San Diego six. McMahon made it 6 out of 6 when he located Danny Plater for six yards and Gunther's kick gave BYU a 14-0 lead. Hamilton darted 14 yards on a draw and Neil Balholm grabbed a 17 yard pass at the Aztec 13. McMahon connected with Kozlowski in the end zone and Gunther's kick gave BYU a 21-0 advantage. BYU gained its final touchdown on a six yard strike from McMahon to Hudson for a 27-0 lead in the third quarter. Texas Christian tied Utah State 13-13 and Nevada-Reno downed Weber State 28-14. |
