Show Debators compete at Olympus The Uintah High School debate team competed in their first meet of the season Friday and Saturday at Skyline and Olympus High Schools in Salt Lake City. James Gurr, Morgan Murri, Rochelle Hopson, Gordon Clark, Scott Adams and Chad Bedell competed in the annual an-nual Utah Governor's Cup Invitational Debate Tournament. James, and Morgan competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate while Gordon, Rochelle, Scott and Chad were entered in Legislative Forum. The Lincoln-Douglas debaters from Uintah each won three rounds and lost two. The topic for the debate was "Resolved. The American Press is Abusing Its Freedom." Each contestant con-testant had to be able to debate both for and against the resolution. The students in Legislative Forum were ranked 15th and 16th out of 30. Each student had to write a bill or resolution and present it to the student congress. The next meets for the debate and forensics team will be Dec. 11 against Hillcrest and Dec. 12 for -the Copper Classic at Bingham High School. |
