Show Manila 1 Clara Robinson I Phone 784-3463 J Easter egg hunt in Manila Manila boys and girls enjoyed an Easter egg hunt at the Manila Elementary School grounds Saturday at 10 a.m. In the group under the direction of Mrs. Floyd Briggs were the children of kindergarten age and under. un-der. Prizes were given for numbered Easter eggs. Mrs. Merlin Schofield won the giant bunny that has been on display at the Flaming Gorge Mercantile. Mer-cantile. There were 70 children in this group. The Flaming Gorge Mercantile sponsored an Easter egg hunt for the children of the first grade through 6th grade ages. Mrs. Sylvia Rosser was in charge of this hunt. They too won prizes for finding numbered eggs, but best of all they enjoyed finding $1 bills which were under 6 of the eggs. There were 63 children in this group. Special thanks was expressed to the Chamber of Commerce who furnished some of the money for the prizes. There were 500 eggs in this hunt. Several big fish have been caught in the Flaming Gorge reservoir. Three large ones reported by David Rosser, proprietor of the Flaming Gorge Mercantile, were one 18'i inch Mackinaw, one 18 inch Mackinaw, and one 11 1 2 inch German Brown. Manila High School students participated par-ticipated in a music festival held at Tinic, Utah on Wednesday, March 2. The ratings for the instrumentals were as follows: John Thompson-trumpet solo, "excellent";' Susan Cook-flute solo! "excellent"; percussion group-Celeste group-Celeste Skabelund, Darla Beck, Melanie Wilde, and Johnny Rogers, "excellent minus"; Theresa Lawlis-flute Lawlis-flute solo, "good minus"; and Marshall Briggs-saxophone, "good". The chorus presented 3 vocal ensembles and received "excellent" on each of them. The ice is gone on the Lucerne Bay ' and this weekend boaters were taking advantage of the open water. Sheep Creek Bav had some open water a week ago but we do not have a report on that. There were quite a few weekenders in Manila during the Easter holiday. Daggett students enjoyed a Spring vacation Thursday and Friday of the past week. There will be a home economics judging clinic under the direction of Ben Stockwell on April 24. It will be held at Manila and will be for Manila and McKinnon, Wyoming 4-H members. mem-bers. The Nimble Needles 4-H club "Learn to Sew" group met at the home of Mrs. William Robinson after school Monday, March 31. They reviewed pin basting and hand basting, learned whip stitching stit-ching and slip stitching, learned the parts of a sewing machine, threaded a machine and sewed a plain seam. Girls in the 4-H group are Debbin Hansen, Theresa Hansen, Shari Reed, Darla Sarrett, Melissa Shofield, Heidi Stainaker, and Melissa Steinaker. They will meet again April 14 after school. Henry Goots, industrial arts teacher at Manila High School, visited his parents in Montana during the Easter holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Murphy spent the Easter holiday in Orem, with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Larsen. Saturday, March 12, a senior citizen dinner will be held at the Senior Citizen Center in Manila at 6:30 p.m. After the dinner, Mrs. Charles Murphy is to present a travelogue on Switzerland, Rome and Greece. Samantha Nunly and Tommy Robinson of Rock Springs, Wyoming spent Saturday night with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William E. Robinson. Sunday their mother, Mrs. Art Robinson, a friend, and Jill Robinson all of Rock Springs, joined the" children and their grandparents at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Ellsworth for a family Easter dinner. Other dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jensen and daughter Janite and M. and Mrs. Rick Ellsworth and daughter Dezaree. During the night an inch of snow had fallen Monday morning, but a strong wind had blown most of it away by morning. It was still blowing at noon Monday. The Daggett County Fine Arts Council will meet at the Manila High School at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. The Grant Pay family spent the Easter holiday with Grant's parents in southern Utah. The M&L Homemakers's Club will hold a card party at the Manila High School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11. There will be no charge, but bring a white elephant item for a prize. |
