Show Wednesday tea to honor Edna Raines at AAaeser school Edna Raines, who has announced her plans to retire this year after serving for 32 years in the Uintah School District, will be honored at a tea at the Maeser School, Wednesday, April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. All of Mrs. Raines' relatives, friends and former and present pupils are invited in-vited to attend the tea which is being sponsored by the Maeser Elementary School faculty and PTA. Mrs. Raines graduated from Uintah High School and graduated from BYU in 1939 with a Normal Diploma. (A Normal Nor-mal Diploma required three years of study and was equivalent to an Elementary Elemen-tary Certification.) She returned to BYU in 1957 to earn her BS degree. After World War II, Edna taught seven years in an "overflow" first and second grade class in the "Bell Room" in the old Maeser School. Sometimes she had 27 students in that small room. After Ashley Elementary was built she taught second grade at Maeser. She also taught in the Central School. Edna is a past recipient of the Teacher of the Month award. Mrs. Raines has four children and one adopted Indian son: Janice Harrison, Har-rison, Burlington, Washington; Darleen Burns, Taylorsville, Utah; Robert J., Jensen; Adreana McDonald, Vernal and Carnel, Lapoint. She lived in New York City for two years, followed her husband when he was in the service and traveled in Can-da, Can-da, Mexico, Texas and New Mexico. She spent one summer in Europe in 1976, while her son was in Germany and from there she toured eight countries. Among her former students are doctors, doc-tors, lawyers, etc. She stated that even some of the underachievers have outearned their teacher. |
