T ' DARIN RASMUSSEN is happy that he has a bear rug not a bear hug after a close encounter with a sheep-killing black bear on Diamond Mountain. The bear was approximately 350 lbs. and 61: feet from tip of nose to tail. Black bear pays for lunch with life i An eleven hour foot chase came to an od Wednesday October 17, on Dia-Eood Dia-Eood Mountain with the death of a 350 pound black bear. The animal was kill-id kill-id by Darin Rasmussen with a 357 , lignum pistol at dusk Wednesday. i The bear measuring approximately h feet with a head about one foot w ide, y killed approximately 15 ewes of Logs and David Rasmussen on their rcch near Crouse Reservoir on Dia- ;xd. It was nearly dark and we didn't know if he was just wounded or dead so we waited until morning to go find him." This is not the first bear killed by the Rasmussens this year or the first one to be in their livestock. About one month ago another bear killed 00 head of lambs for the stockmen "The bears prefer lambs over the older sheep" said Darin. "They would kill the sheep and eat them right there." The Rasmussens' started nut last spring w ith about WK) head of ewes and lambs. They estimated that the last bear kill totaled about $750. |
