Vernal Ftar&tftoeirs shin ITok voir perfect season ov 0-g The Vernal Junior High Panthers crushed the Green River footballers in Vernal, Thursday, 49 to 16, for the second undefeated season in a row for the Vernal team at 8-0. . The Vernal and Green River fans were also treated to the Pat Jenkins show as the Vernal running back scored four touchdowns, which consisted of 267 yards. Green River booted the ball to Vernal in the game opening kickoff, but referee, Ron Moore, stopped the action because nobody was operating the clock. The clock problem was taken care of and the ball was kicked off once again. Pat Jenkins nabbed the flying football and marched 95 yards for a touchdown with 11:44 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick by Kurt Robb was good, which gave Vernal, a 7-0 7-0 lead. However, a few moments later Vernal's Brian McNamara intercepted a pass by Mike Quintal on the 20 yard line. A play later Clark Emery carried the ball four yards up the middle for the second touchdown at the 9:13 mark of the first quarter. Kurt Robb's extra point kick was good, which gave Vernal, a 14-0 lead. Green River was unable to gain a first down and they were forced to punt the ball to Vernal. David Rasmussen jetted 70 yards down the left side of the field on the first play and scored the third touchdown in the first quarter. Kurt Robb's extra point kick gave Vernal a 21 to 0 lead with 7 minutes left in the first quarter. However, Green River' came right back as they moved into Vernal territory at the 35 yard line. Kerry Robertson carried the ball to the 18 yard line. Green River's Steve Garcia nabbed a pass at the 10 yard line and two penalties against Vernal placed the ball on the one yard line. Kerry Robertson ripped up the middle for the touchdown and Rob Wisdom nabbed a pass for the two-point conversion, which cut Vernal's lead to 21 to 8 with 11: 29 left in the second quarter. The Wyoming team kicked the ball to Vernal and 20 seconds later the Panthers Pan-thers increased their lead to 27 to 14 due to a 90 yard touchdown run by Pat Jenkins with 11:09 left in the second quarter. The extra point kick was no good. Green River scored its second touchdown touch-down when Kerry Robertson nabbed a 20-yard pass from Mike Quintal and then broke some tackles and darted into the end zone at the 7:02 mark of the second quarter. Quintal fired a pass to Rob-Wisdom for the two-point conversion; con-version; which cut Vernal's lead to 27 to 16. i Pat Jenkins scored three times in the next drive, but only one of the touchdowns touch-downs counted. Jenkins marched 76 yards and into the end zone, but the touchdown was called back due to a clipping penalty. Vernal's Jenkins received a quick pitch and jetted 37 yards for another touchdown. A pass to David Rasmussen placed the Panthers Pan-thers on the 50 yard line and then Pat Jenkins scored his fourth touchdown of the game when he received a handoff and blasted 50 yards for the six-pointer at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter. Clark Emery roared up the middle for the two-point conversion, which made the final score: Vernal, 49 and Green River, 16. Vernal Junior High's football team garnered five shutouts during its 8-0 undefeated 1979 season. The Panthers blanked Rock Springs, 18-0; Duchesne, 20-0; West, 35-0; Craig, 34-0; and Altamont, 49-0. They also thumped Roosevelt, 46-16, 42-18 and toppled Green River, Wyomi outscored .ts opponent!
