Show WILDLIFE REPORT UIAM SIA1I: DIVISION Ol WII.Dl II I" Hi '.OUIIU s ' y By Jon Leatham' Conservation Officor This years deer hunt is over, and it proved to be somewhat different differ-ent than last year. Warm sunny days dominated the entiie season, and the deer remained very scattered over the LaSal Mountains. Hunters also found that access to remote re-mote areas was possible for a change. It appeared appear-ed that there were fewer hunters this year, but it could be that they were just spread out over a greater area. The hunting hunt-ing success was either good or bad, depending on who you spoke to. From my observation, the success suc-cess was down slightly. However, the checking station at Crescent Junction Junc-tion reported that the hunter success was above average for the number of hunters checking out during the first weekend of the hunt. The final results will not be known until question-aires question-aires are sent to hunters, hunt-ers, and all the reports from the checking stations sta-tions are tabulated. Those who were successful suc-cessful generally had to work hard for that buckskin, buck-skin, as well as have a lot of luck. "There aren't the deer that there use to be...", was a comment com-ment heard quite often, as well as comments as to whose fault it is. But how many of the com-plainers com-plainers have gone out on the range rides, and browse transect studies each spring, or attended the public- hearings and voiced their opinions to the Board of Big Game Control. Like any other democratic process, if you haven't voted, then then you have no right to complain. I hope sportsmen take it upon themselves to take an active part in helping to formulate the regulations regu-lations for managing our wildlife resources. Have you ever seen a flying moose? If not, you might want to watch "Utah Trails" at 7:30 p.m. November 13th on Channel 3. Utah Trails is seen each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on KUED, and hosted host-ed by the Division of Wildlife Resources. If you have any ideas for program subjects, the Division urges you to write them to the Salt Lake office. |
