Ekker, James Duerock and Richard Ryan took possession po-ssession of the Grene River Airport on January 1. Former owners, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Alger, are moving to their home in Elmo, where they will establish a small airport. The three new owners are local boys, all of them having grown up in Green River. A. C. Ekker is a rancher, owning Robbers Roost ranch with his father, Arthur Ekker, and also Outlaw Trails Expeditions. Expedi-tions. Richard Ryan owns and operates Ryan's Phillips 66 service station, and James Duerock (Jimmy D.) was practically raised at the airport air-port by Jim and Helen Hurst. Ryan just received his private pri-vate license, but will go on for a commercial as soon as he can get it. Ekker has a private ticket of some years' standing stand-ing and will.be able to qualify for his commercial before the season of ferrying boating parties arrives. He already has enough air time, but. is joining Ryan in regular weekly week-ly trips to Alpine Aviation in Provo for further training. Duerock has an impressive number of licenses. These include A&P, Commercial with Instructor's rating, Instrument, In-strument, multi-engine, and he has 3,800 hours of flying. He spent several years working work-ing with Jim Hurst at the local airport, where he received much of his training. He moved to Vernal, where he worked for some time, and where he met and married his wife, Carol Ann two years ago. They went to Ontario, Oregon, where he was flying when he heard the local airport was for sale. He came down to look into it, and he and the other two partners in the venture, put together the Redtail Aviation, Inc. They will use the Redtail Hawk as their symbol. Richard Ryan is married to the former Delia Mae Ekker and they have a son, Wade, four months old. A. C. Ekker and his wife Beverly, have two children, Janie and Shawn, both in school. Redtail Aviation, Inc. will offer all of the services of a fixed-base airport. These include in-clude charter, fuel, instruction, instruc-tion, ferrying, crew hauls and tool hauls, ranching services such as cattle searches and recons as well as hay and feed drops. Also the extensive shop here will offer a mechanic mechan-ic service for planes in this area, a facility not now avail- able closer than Provo. Most of the flying will be done in Cessna 185s, with a 206 of two to handle air traffic from river trips, into Sand Wash or out of Hite, as well as picking up passengers in Grand Junction for most of the outfitters in this area. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hurst were visiting their daughter in Ogden, and came on down to give their approval of the new venture. Since the boys are Jim's students-except that Ryan finished his training train-ing with James Bonine-he felt that the port that he had worked so hard to build was still somewhat in the family. And both he and Mrs. Hurst felt it was in very competent hands, they stated. |
