Show Best December Ever Listed at Deadhorse During the month of December Decem-ber Dead Horse Point State Park recorded 1,979 visitors, making this December the best visited of any past years. During December of 1975, the park recorded 696 visitors. visit-ors. The increase for December Decem-ber 1976 represents a 184 per cent increase. Total visitation for 1976 totaled 129,135 visitors, visit-ors, an increase in visitation of 75 per cent over 1975 when the park had 73,604 visitors. During the 1976 season 8,479 persons camped at Dead Horse Point State Park. Slide programs were given again this past summer on the weekends by the National Park Service from the Island-in-the-Sky. Each year with the increased increas-ed visitation, it means more water hauling. This past year the park hauled 390,900 gal lons of water for visitors' use while in the area. During the time waited for the new park diesel, park personnel hauled 108,500 gallons of water to Goblin Valley State Reserve, making the total amount of water hauled by the park diesel 499,400 gallons. Camping will be permitted during the winter months on the point. Restrooms will be left open for campers' use, however, they should plan to bring their own water and firewood. There will be no fees charged during the winter win-ter months. The park visitor center will reopen around March 16, 1977 and the developed camp area will open sometime after that date and camping fees will be charged in the developed camp area, said Mike Barker, Park Superintendent. |
