Show Vandalism Marred Otherwise improved Year in Moab's Police Report for 7 976 Police Chief Mel Dalton completed a . roundup of department activities for 1976 which shows criminal activity generally down in the city, with the notable exception of vandalism, which has increased by 57 per cent since 1974. Juvenile arrests and referrals are down considerably under 1975. j st year 51 juveniles were referred to Juvenile Court on all offenses. This compares with 117 in 1975 and is down 56 per ceni. Juveniles referred to their parents last year totaled 134, a 33 per cent reduction under the 201 the prior year. In the area of vandalism, there were 54 incidents reported to the city police in 1976. This compares with 46 in 1975 and 31 in 1974. These acts of vandalism caused $10,375 estimated damages, compared with $9,350 in 1975. Of last year's vandalism $3,175 worth was solved. There were 192 accidents investigated investigat-ed in 1976, 3 less than in 1975. Drunk driving arrests totaled 44 last year, one less than the year before. Public intoxication arrests in 1976 totaled 23, 5 under the previous year. There were 682 traffic citation? written last year compared with 732 thf year before. Last year there were 14 burglaries investigated by city police. This represents a 65 per cent reduction in burglaries under 1974, when 40 were reported. In 1975 there were 16 burglaries in the city investigated by police. Of last year's burglaries 6 were solved. There were about 16 arrests made last year on drug offenses, however this total does not include arrests made by the Narcotics Task Force. In 1975 there were 21 drug arrests made by police. During the year felony thefts, involving values of over $250, totaled 29 which police investigated, 6 more than the previous year. Seven of these have been cleared, said Chief Dalton. Misdemeanor thefts in 1976 totaled 51, 26 per cent up over the 38 the previous year in the city and investigated by police. Calls where some action was taken on the part of police officers last year totaled 1,669, which compares with 1,616 in 1975. . Chief Dalton reports that all officers attended the required 40 hours of schooling during the year. Three new officers were hired: Kirk Rigby, Steve Brownell and Alan West. During the year there was one homicide in the city, that of Yvonna Gray, and it has been cleared. There was one attempted robbery, which has also been cleared. There were no rapes, robbery or traffic fatalities in the city during 1976. |
