Show Meiv Commission Organized, Under tVoy Grand County's new commission was sworn into office Monday, with the first order of business being the election of a new chairman. On motion of Comm. A. Dan Holyoak and second of Comm. Leo Burr, with Comm. Harvey Merrell voting aye, Burr was elected, chairman. Retiring Commission Chairman D. L. Taylor, before turning the meeting over -y 1 Leo Burr was sworn in Monday as a new Grand County Commissioner and was then elected chairman of the new commisson. A republican, he will serve a 2-year term in office and pledges quality governmental services to county residents within the fiscal resources available. V -' " i; ? 1 ' 1 t ti wmmissoner Harvey Merrell was also sworn Into office, for a 4-year term on the ' county commission. Also a Republican, he filled the unexpired term of the late Hub Newell, and was elected to office by voters last November. Giving the oaths of office was City Judge Don Crist. Commissioner A. Dan Hoiyoak, a Democrat, has two more years to serve on his term. i to Comm. Burr, read a letter addressed to the new commission from County Treasurer Donna Loveridge. She said, in part, "You are aware of course that everyone is watching you with critical eyes and some are not even waiting for your performance to give judgment." She said, in addition "...I hope you enjoy your experiences and govern with wisdom, good judgment and fairness." Then Comm. Burr took control of the meeting and regular county business commenced. Hannah Pittman reported that Ann Hemme will be the new public health nurse in Grand County when she retires in February. County blanket insurance bids were opened. Allen Insurance bid $15,219, excluding boiler coverage. This was the low bid and was accepted by the commission. The other bidder, Central Utah Insurance, bid $20,709 excluding crime coverage. Comm. Merrell was elected to replace retiring Comm. Taylor on the Association of Governments board of directors as Grand County's representative. representat-ive. In other business, on recommendation recommendat-ion of Sheriff W. H. Bowman, it was decided not to issue the Alibi Club a new license this year. Sheriff Bowman termed the club a public nuisance which does not meet health standards. |
