The set has been on display at Gambles since July just to give the Rio Algom employees a little extra Incentive to think about safety. Safety Contest Winner Named by Rio Algom While on vacation, Floyd Alvey got a call from his employer, Rio Algom Corp., but instead of bad news, they only wanted to tell him that he had won a color television set during his absence. The set was a prize in the Safety Contest that has been going on since July 6 at the Lisbon Mine, and vacation or no vacation, Floyd was at Gambles Gam-bles on Friday, Dec. 31 to pick up His prize. John Zimmerman, Safety Supervisor at Rio Algom, explained that the Safety Contest was started as an incentive to employees to be more careful at work as well as driving to and from the mine each day. Numbers were coded to safety slogans about wearing the proper protection equipment in the mine, operating and working near machinery, etc. Each employee em-ployee received a standard Bingo card and if he worked his scheduled shift and did not have a lost-time or medical accident, he was given the daily slogan. Gift certificates were given for the first horizontal, vertical, verti-cal, and diagonal "Bingos," with the color TV being the prize for the first to fill a whole card. Other winners in the contests con-tests have been: Bruce Swen-son, Swen-son, $100 gift certificate; Alphonso Herrera, Andy Bow-thorpe, Bow-thorpe, Cordy Brewer, Sid Freudiger, Gene Campbell, Ken Schulenburg, Terry Dal-ton, Dal-ton, $50 gift certificates. |
