Show Blast Closes Club For Rest of Year The Alibi Club's license will not be renewed this year following a dynamite blast there last week. This action was taken formally by the County Commission Monday, on recommendation of Sheriff W. H. Bowman. He termed the business a public nuisance which does not meet health standards. Neighbors said the blast occurred at about 4:30 a.m., however it was not reported to the Sheriff's Department until 7:30 a.m. by club owner Roy Pogue. Deputy Sheriff Carl Davis, who investigated, said a person or persons had broken in by a side door and had then broken into all the money collection boxes in machines, which are owned by Woody Woodward. Some dynamite was set off by the south wall of the building blowing a small hole in the wall, and breaking windows out of that side of the building. Thereafter a fuse was set off in a Lysol spray cleaner container in the same location, and a large spot was burned in the floor before the fire burned out, said Davis. Jle said that Pogue also claims 15 cases of beer were stolen. Estimates of damage are pending investigation by insurance companies. |
