Show Motes from Hanksville The old year ended and a new began with some notable changes and other events passed unnoticed. A community commun-ity party was given by the Steak House with the menu planned by Mrs. Faye Holt and Mrs. Ranae Albrecht. For the under 21 set, the MIA held a New Years Party at the church recreation Hall where the young folks enjoyed an evening of games and music topped off by breakfast at 2:00 a.m. Supervising this affair was Bishop and Mrs. Kay Erickson, Mrs. Don Wells, and Mrs. La Vor Wells. Many folks attended parties in upper Wayne County, Green River and Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Holt are great-grandparents to a baby daughter born to their grand son, James Mason of Rochester, Roches-ter, New York. James is the son of their daughter, Carma Mason. The little miss has been named Amanda Jean. James is a medical student in ' New York. Bruce Ekker underwent major surgery Dec. 30 at the Veterans Hospital in Reno, Nevada. He has been medically medical-ly retired from the FAA where he served in maintenance. He plans to be released from the hospital on the 6th. His daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Pug) Ritter will undergo major back surgery on the 4th to repair a disc. Mrs. Evelyn Ekker will care for her two grandchildren during the hospitalization. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ekker and three children from Payson spent the holiday here with his parents, the Horace Ekkers, and brothers and their families. fam-ilies. The three children of Marilyn Mari-lyn and Rod Sellers received only minor injuries when their car rolled over north of Hanksville enroute home from Green River last week. The driver apparently dozed and caused the accident A phone call from Ed and Mary Kirby in Sharon, Conn, during the holidays brought the good word that his book, "Saga of Butch Cassidy" will be out within the next 60 days. Kirby doesn't rehash all the material read before about Cassidy and his followers, but takes the trio (Cassidy, Etta, and Sundance) from New York to South America and their retum State side. He has researched this book for years and it is a "must" for western readers. The Kirby family was all home for the holidays they said. Kevin works in Hartford, Ann is a medical student in St Louis, Maureen is studying to be a legal secretary. Ed is the principal of the high school and Mary works at the local book store. There are still two Kirbys home attending high school and Jr. High. Visiting the Riter Ekker home over the holidays were Mr. and Mrs. Morris Blackburn Black-burn and three children, the Jay Ekkers and three children, Everett Ekker and two children. r . Patsy Rasmussen and Rita Ekker were in Salt Lake the last of the week visiting Patsy's mother, Robin Ras-mussen Ras-mussen and sisters, Linda and Bonnie, before Patsy returned to college at St George. Donna Holt is recuperating from an injured foot she hurt while helping her dad fence. Virgil Allen entered the Veterans Hospital in Grand Jet for a complete check-up. Virgil has been mining in Goldfield, Nevada but returned return-ed home to spend the holidays' with friends. Mrs. May Cook is visiting during the holidays with her husband, Luther, at the Hite Marina on Lake Powell from her home at San Diego. Their son and wife also joined them from California for Christmas. |
