Show Moab Museum to Repeat Popular Quilling Event The success of last week's quilling demonstration, and numerous requests for a repeat, re-peat, have resulted in the Museum scheduling a 2nd demonstration. Next Tuesday, February 17 at 7p.m., Virginia Mosee and Genevieve Miller will again offer free demonstration demon-stration of and instruction in the fine art of quilling. Quilling is the art of rolling narrow strips of paper into sprials, shaping the spirals into many geometric forms, and creating colorful designs or "pictures" from them. Quilling has been a recognized art form for five or six hundred years, but is certainly not one of the better known arts today. Many people have never heard of "quilling" (and many mistake the word for quilting) and few have seen examples of it. The name apparently originated when it was the practice to roll the paper onto goose quills. The Moab Museum currently current-ly has an exhibit of quilling which has attracted much interest. Last week's demonstration demon-stration attracted 40-50 persons, per-sons, most of whom K were fascinated by the complex designs assembled by Mes-dames Mes-dames Mosee and Miller. Many "observers" became "participants" before the evening eve-ning ended, making some simple figures under the guidance of the experts. Dave May, President of the Museum Board, reported that the demonstration was hardly over before he began receiving requests of "a replay." As additional requests have been made for more information, the second demonstration was scheduled for next week. The Museum is open seven days each week from 3-5 and 7-9. May urged that Moabites drop by the Museum to see the exhibit especially if they don't know anything about quilling. "Once people see the finished product," May said, "I think a lot will want to see how it's done!" |
