Show Deep Drilling Underway At Two Utah IVeJJs Two exploratory wells currently cur-rently being drilled in Utah are at deep depths. ..below 16,000 feet. ..notes Carlton Stowe, Staff Specialist, Utah Geological Geologi-cal & Mineral Survey. The two wells are in the northern and northeastern area of the state. One is the W.A. Moncrief No. 14-1 Marsing, drilling at 16,350 feet. It is about 12 miles southwest of the town of Duchesne, located on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. It is south-southwest of production along the Uintah Basin's Altamont-Blue-bell trend in an area where no previous drilling has been done. Moncrief has not disclosed dis-closed the projected total depth. In northern Utah's Summit County, CIG Exploration Explora-tion Company of Denver, is drilling below 17, 365 feet at the No. 1 Cook-C, about three miles east of Bridger Lake field almost 25 miles west of the town of Manila. The operator reports the Madison formation objective is expected expect-ed at a depth of some 21,500 feet. In western Utah's Millard County, Mr. Stowe notes a rig is being moved in to drill the Needle Exploration Company's Com-pany's No. 1-B Needle Anticline Anti-cline well, a scheduled 10,000 foot test. It is about 15 miles south of the town of Garrison and is more than a 150 miles from any oil or gas production. A count of active rotary drilling rigs in Utah reveals that 17 rigs are currently working compared to 35 active this time a year ago. Three new wells are scheduled for drilling, two in San Juan County and one in Grand County. Gerald Dickenson will drill the No. 1 well in the Mexican Hat area to 1,200 feet, and Texaco Inc., will drill the Aneth-314 to approximately approximate-ly 5,770 feet. In Grand County, Minerals Management has scheduled the No. 8-44 Federal Feder-al to 7.800 feet. It is in the Long Canyon area west of Moab. |
