Show Four Moabites Attended Club Meet in Price Four ladies of the Women's Literary Club motored to Price Saturday to attend the Winter Board Meeting of the Eastern District of the Utah Federation of Women's Clubs. Jen Pope, president, was accompanied by Palma Jacobs, Ja-cobs, Ann Pool and Joan Shermer. District president Jeanette McAlpine presided over the meeting held at the First Methodist Church. Girl Scout Troop 62 presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem, accompanied by Gla- dys Pignalli at the piano. The group also sang their Bicentennial Bicen-tennial song, "I Love America." Ameri-ca." U.F.W.C. president Alma Klitguard and president-elect Ruth Barker were morning speakers with Pat Ward, Junior Public Affairs chairman, chair-man, giving a movie and talk on the new "Hands Up" program on crime prevention adopted by the General Federation of Women's Clubs. This is a federally funded program and will be conducted in a "Synegistic Convergence", Conver-gence", known as Syn Con. It is a national volunteer effort to halt crime. Other state people present were Faye Meyers, editor of the Newsletter; Etta Diamanti, State Bicentennial chairman; June Havern, chairman of Clubwoman of the Year Contest; Ann Pool, Crafts chairman. The ladies group of the First Methodist Church served the luncheon. The theme was Heritage with a display of antiques from tintypes to quilts. An announcement was made about a forthcoming play about Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the UFWC project in the process of completion. Ann Pool, Drug and Alcohol Abuse chairman of the local club, announced a seminar to be held in Moab on April 9 and 10 sponsored by the local Drug Advisory Board and assisted by the club. The afternoon session was taken up with business and plans for the forthcoming district convention to be held in Price, April 24, with Price Sorosis Club as the hostess club. The state convention will be May 6, 7, and 8 in Ogden. All district officers were present and some district chairmen. All clubs were represented and chairman of the conference was Mrs. Joe Freeman of Price Sorosis. The next meeting of the Moab Literary Club will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Western National Bank with Joan Shermer and her International Interna-tional Affairs Committee in charge. |
