Show Former Moab Scout Honored For Speaking Craig Porter, 17, a former Boy Scout from Troop 803 in Moab, now living in Albuquer que, recently entered the Reader's Digest national public pub-lic speaking contest for Eagte Scouts. Craig won the Unit, Council and Regional Section contests before losing in the Regional Contest in Dallas, Texas. The winner in Dallas was one of eleven finalists who competed in the national finals in New York City. In November, Craig was selected by the Boy Scout organization or-ganization to take training in Lubbock, -Texas on Operation Reach. Craig is now respon sible for conducting training courses on Operation Reach for Boy Scouts throughout New Mexico. During Scout Week in February, Craig was selected to give the report to Governor Bruce King on Scouting in New Mexico. Aside from his Scouting activity, ac-tivity, Craig is active in the LDS Church, has received the "Duty to God" award, is area vice president in seminary, semin-ary, and. during the past summer sum-mer was chairman of a youth conference involving several hundred New Mexico youths. He is a junior at Manzano High School,, where he is maintaining a straight A agerage. In a recent State JV wrestling tournament, he won the championship in the 126 lb. class. Craig received a trophy for being the outstanding out-standing wrestler in the tournament. |
