Show State Land Board Selects Castle Valley Acreage By C. Sharp The State Land Board Feb. 23 agreed to select public lands in Castle Valley east of Moab in exchange for 5, 633 acres of state lands within with-in new borders of Canyonlands Canyon-lands National Park. 120 Days Deadline Under the new law enlarging enlarg-ing the park a deadline of 120 days is fixed for exchanging public lands for state lands within the enlarged boundaries. boundar-ies. The board members also agree to enlarge their earlier application to the U. S. Bureau Bur-eau of Land Management to seek 490 acres of land north of the Moore Interchange on 1-70 about 4 miles west of Green River. A motel, service station, camp area and future equipment equip-ment shed for the State Highway High-way Department are to be located on the tract. Lumber Sale The board also agreed to offer for sale at public auction auc-tion a million board feet of penderosa pine now growing east of Moab. This sale will be at the State Forestry and Fire Control office in Moab. Minimum price will be $15 per 1,000 board feet. A public auction also is to be held at Green River to offer of-fer 80 acres of state land a mile southwest of Green River Ri-ver at a minium price of 10 per acre. Lavon Bigelow of Green River who farms adjacent ad-jacent lands, wants to buy the tract. The board agreed to select 200 acres of public land at Granite Creek west of the Utah-Colorado state line and south of the Dolores River jn Grand County. John E. Keogh of Moab wants to buy the land to cultivate it. The board decided to defer any sale until the State Highway Department decides whether it wants to build a road through the area. |
