McArtlmr A fire that menaced the Midland Telephone Co. work yard buildings on First South was averted by the quick response re-sponse of the Moab vuluntetr fire department. The fire broke out about 3 p.m. last Saturday in a barn filled with hay. It spread rapidly with flames flam-es reaching over 50 feet into the air before Ix'ins brought under control. Another shed directly in back of tlie work yard escaped without serious damage as the volunteers sprayed water on the walls to keep it from burning. The insulation on a telephone line directly overhead caught on fire, necessitating its being cut to remove danger to adjacent ad-jacent prox-rty. The fire department worked work-ed for over an hour and a half to quench the flames and one piece of equipment stood by until dark to make sure the smoldering hay did not start another fire. The barn and its contents were entirely consumed and as late as Sunday afternoon the hay still sent out smoke. Damage was estimated at about $000. Two juveniles ages 5 and C, were turned over to juvenile juven-ile court in connection with the matter after it was determined deter-mined by fire officials that they were playing with firecrackers fire-crackers alongside the barn. |
