Show Devils Rallied to Big 37 to 21 Victory Over South Sevier Ily Don KohliiMin On the ropes from a South Sevier comeback late in the first half, the Moab Red Devils .shook off some seeming lethargy and ended South Sevier's undefeated skien with a solid 37-21 victory here Friday. South Sevier managed to contain veteran running back Merrill Noyes fairly effectively, effectiv-ely, but soph Don Flynn gave the Rams fits. Flynn ended with three touchdowns for his night's work. Two of his scores came on passes from Ken Bohn and on each Flynn did a fine job of finding the end zone. Both teams scored early. Moab received and moved down the field rather easily for the first score. That came on a 27 yard pass from Bohn to Flynn. The conversion by Loveridge was good. The fans had little time to relax. Pat Hansen ran the kickoff back to Moab's 47 yard line and five plays later Rex Barney crashed in from the four yard line for six points. The kick failed and that was to be the margin at the half. Late in the first quarter Moab ground its way deep into South Sevier territory before giving up the ball on downs. They got it back on a short kick and quickly made the most of it. Ken Bohn ran it to the South Sevier six as the quarter ended and on the first play of the second period Jay Johnson dashed in for the Devils' second touchdown. Bohn tossed tos-sed to Noyes for the important two-point conversion. That was the last the Devils saw of the ball in the second quarter. The undefeated Rams went to work with a vengence. Moab halted the first drive when Tracy Tibbetts threw Ram quarterback Rog Farns-worth Farns-worth for a loss, but the Rams soon got their ground game going. Rex Barney, Pat Hansen Han-sen and big Dave Farley gobbled up big chunks of yard age with Farley going the final four yards with only 38 seconds left in the half. Farnsworth kept for a two-pointer two-pointer and the halftime margin was a slim 15-14 for Moab and momentum on the side of the Rams. The momentum stayed with South Sevier for five minutes of the third quarter. Stalled once, they capitalized on a Moab fumble to drive to the Devil four yard line. There, the Moab defense had its finest moments. With first and goal to go the Rams tried four times to score and four times the red shirted defenders threw them back, finally taking over the ball. In a flash, the game turned around. Bohn bootlegged to his left for 49 yards to the Ram 37 yard line. He then faded back and threw a strike to Flynn for the TD. Noyes charged over for two points. That gave Moab a 24-14 respite, but neither team was through. A fumble by Moab and an important interception by Jay Johnson kept things at a standoff. Noyes broke it apparently when he got loose for 55 yards and a score, but it was wiped out by a penalty. Noyes came right back with a 24 yard run. Bohn rolled out again for 20 and then Bohn found Flynn again for the final ten yards. Noyes again got the two points and Moab breathed easter but unwisely. The Rams never were out of the game and their answer to Moab was a bomb. Roger Farnsworth evaded the Moab line and rifled a long pass to Pat Hansen who outran Moab for a 67 yard scoring play. Dave Farley added two points and the game was close again at 31-22. Moab added the clincher after an onside kick failed for South Sevier. Bohn hit Mike Zimmerman on the ten yard line to set it up and Bohn got the final eight yards to sew up the game. It still took Hey Copeland's interception to shut down the Rams and send Moab fans home happy. ( v ; " :-::':-;"f . . ....... . . . Wir" i "" - . -' " . . ... ' ,. . - ... - , -. .2,. .
