Show MELON DAYS Melon Days '75 kicked "off with a good parade at 10:30 on Saturday morning. Prize-winning floats were entered by Woman's Club, 1st; Carbon County Music, 2nd; Jeep Posse, Search and Rescue; American Legion honored the Girls Staters for 4th place. In the Horse division, the Dunham family took 1st place with "When the Spirit Moves We Move." Second place was won by Jacquie Jewkes riding Kindi, decked out in the new saddle they won in the Ogden race this summer. Mrs. Bonine's 4-K club took 3rd place. Judges for the parade were Miss Nancy Reed and Steve Lacy of Castle Dale and Greg Hunt from KUED in Salt Lake City. After the parade, the crowd enjoyed the booths at the City Park and then attended the Gymkhana at the Rodeo Grounds. The Firemen hosted the dance at the firehouse, and a fine crowd turned out for the dance. Mrs. Ruth Ann Whiteside White-side won the quilt. On Sunday, a SRA-AMA Point Event Motocross saw four of the local boys bringing back prizes. Philip Engleman won 1st place in the 100-cc Novice event; Bryan Hunt took 1st in the Open Novice; Richard Engleman racked up a 6th in the 125-cc Novice and Doug Raff brought in a 7th in the 25Q-CC Amateur. About 122 riders showed up for the races, all the classes were full, and the track was fast and good. |
