Show State Park Visitation Continues to Increas The visitation to Southeastern Southeast-ern Utah continues to increase as the summer season draws to a close. Newspaper Rock State Historical Monument experienced an increase of 3733 visits over the same month in 1974. The year-to-date visitation is still exceptionally excep-tionally high as compared to 1974. The visitation at Goosenecks State Reserve showed an increase from 1416 in 1974 to 2577 visits this year. This represents and 82 increase. The year-to-date records show a 48 increase over 1974. Recreational use on the San Juan River remains fairly active even though the River flow has dropped to about 1000 cubic feet per second. We have been fortunate to have another year of river use drawing to a close with no fatal accidednts on the San Juan River although, other rivers in the state have not been so fortunate. Recreational vehicle users should be exceptionally careful this time of year as the dry vegetation increases the possibility poss-ibility of over heated mufflers starting a fire. Also, state law requires a spark arresting muffler system on all vehicles. The State Board of Parks L ' Recreation with its new boa members has toured Sou'V eastern Utah in an effort '' ' keep the board current on o " needs and to educate the ne S members as to the scenic f recreational value of 0i " section of the state. |
