Show Visitation to Glen Canyon and Rainbow Bridge Continues Up Superintcndont, William J. Bridle, reports that visitation visita-tion is up oifdit percent for Glen Canyon National Recreation Rec-reation Area and seven percent per-cent for Rainbow Bridge National Na-tional Monument during 17. Visitation to this popular playground, with its marina;; boat launching ramps, and campgrounds, has increased from 9.282 in 1902 to 390,037, in 1907. This is an increase of 38l),7.r)5 visitors in a five-year period. Of the presently developed de-veloped areas, Wahweap on the Arizona side, leads in visitation vis-itation with 3t)7,145. Rainbow Bridge visitation, has also taken a definite upward up-ward swing. From 1909 through 1902 approximately 23,89:1 persons visited the world's largest natural arch. 21,993 visitors viewed the arch in 1907. Lake Powell, romantically called "The Jewel of the Colorado" is the main attri tion of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This supper!) sup-per!) lake is also the gateway to Rainbow Bridge National Monument for the majority cf persons visiting that area. River-shaped Lake 1'owell has many enchanting qualities quali-ties that lure the vacationing public; the numerous side canyons and scenic coves, accessible ac-cessible by boat year around, along with fishing and boating, boat-ing, make this a recreation area unsurpassed in the Western United States. An added attraction, this past year, is the new Glen Canyon Visitor Center featuring fea-turing tours at Glen Canyon Dam. The entire facility, com plete with exhibits, will be fully operational in the early spring. |
