Show CCRMA makes bold move Directors of the Canyon Country River Marathon Association have made a bold move the past week. They rave removed the annual Marathon Race . from the roalm of family racing, and patterned it specifically for professional racers. Entry fees have Wen jacked up; and prize money in various categories is now large enough to really attract some serious racers. The hybrid Marathon R?.ce in the past has been a little of both. The Association sponsored events for family racers, and help open classes for the professionals. profes-sionals. But it didn't work. Either the family boaters were too shy to run in the same set of events where factory and professional racing types were running, or the pros would not run because the rivers were cluttered up with amateurs. At any rate, the race has not been attracting any great number of racers over the years. The new CCRMA decision is a good one. Let the family boats enjoy their Friendship Cruise in May. And let's see if we can't make a real race out of the June Marathon. |
