Eampton signs proclamation declaring week of Feb. 26th through March 2nd as: Sight Conservation and Aid to the Blind Week. Lions throughout the State of Utah will be carrying small white canes and offering these to the public in an effort to raise funds for the many projects Lions Clubs are involv-in involv-in in helping the blind. Howe, Administrative Administra-tive Assistant to Governor Rampton has been named Executive Ex-ecutive Director of the newly created Four-Corners Regional Reg-ional Commission, according to Governor Calvin L. Rampton. Ramp-ton. Governor Rampton made the announcement after re-ceivingv'word re-ceivingv'word from Orren . J.: Beaty, Federal Co-Chairman of the Four-State Commission, Washington, D. C, and Governor Gov-ernor John Love, of Colorado State Co-Chairman. Governor Rampton said that the Commission was created cre-ated last year as a partnership partner-ship between the Federal government and the Four states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, to work on a regional approach toward upgrading the economy econ-omy of the participating counties coun-ties of the four states. "We in Utah are pleased to have one of our citizens chosen to lead this important work. Economic development of our State, including highway high-way improvement, tourist development, de-velopment, educational a-chievement a-chievement and increased mineral development can now be attacked fortively by existing ex-isting federal and state agencies. agen-cies. All states will benefit from this common effort", continued Governor Rampton. Mr. Howe has served as the Administrative Assistant to Governor Rampton for nearly 2 years. Prior to that he served serv-ed I-V2 years as assistant attorney at-torney general of Utah, assigned as-signed to the office of the Governor. We can all agree on the general goals we must seek to increase the economic econom-ic opportunity of the citizens of the 4-corners region. Yet, a great challenge exists m implementing a plan that will coordinate and re-direct present pres-ent efforts toward those goals Through the active cooperation coopera-tion of each stale and the federal agencies involved, plus the possibility of additional addi-tional federal appropriation to the Commission, much can be accomplished." Headquarters for the Four-State Four-State Commission is located in Farmington, N.M., with offices of-fices also in Washington, D. C. Mr. Howe's office will be located at Farmington, but he will spend considerable time coordinating efforts of each state by visiting each capitol, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Howe is married to ilie. former Marlene Doe. They have one daughter, and three sons. He has been active in civic and church affairs in Salt Lake City. He is 40 years of age. |
