Show Southeast Utah Newspapers Bo Well In Sfatswsde Awards Competition Southeastern Utah newspapers news-papers fared well in statewide competition among weekly newspapers at the annual convention con-vention of the Utah State Press Association in Salt Lake City last weekend. The Moab Times-Independent won first place awards in Class II competition for editor's edi-tor's column and editorials; awards for best use of illustrative illus-trative material (photos), advertising ad-vertising promotion, and took second place in general excellence. ex-cellence. The Price Sun-Advocate won first place for editor's column in Class III newspap- ers; first in Community Service Ser-vice for efforts in attracting a Koret of California plant to Price; and other second and third place awards. The Emery County Progress, published in Castle Dale, was awarded the Harrison R. Merrill Mer-rill Award for best front page among Class I newspapers. Awards Sunday afternoon at the Hotel Utah followed three days of meetings, high-I'ghted high-I'ghted by a speech Saturday bv Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, who outlined Utah's efforts at attracting new industry, and pointed out how (he community commun-ity press could be of assist- ance in this endeavor. At the annual business meeting meet-ing Saiurdny, Snm Taylor, eci'tor of the Moab Times-Independent, was elected to a two year position on the Board of Direclors of the newsn?per group, representing represent-ing Eastern I'tph. The five-member five-member hoard of directors operates an advertising and public relraions office in Salt L?ke City. Mr. Taylor is a past president of USPA, serving ser-ving in that capacity in 1955. Attending from Moab were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Taylor, and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Taj-lor. |
