Fire Chief Kerrigan left the bedside of his sick wife in response to an alarm of fire yesterday, and in his absence Mrs. Kerrigan died. The funeral services were held yesterday. Just as the procession pro-cession was about to leave the bouse, a bad fire broke out in the business district. dis-trict. The chief was forced to respond to the second alarm. The fire threatened to destroy the entire en-tire west side. It originated in the hardware warehouse of Arp & Howard, How-ard, near the Colorado Sc Southern, and completely destroyed the warehouse and contents, valued at $25,000, and a small cottage adjoining. The flames were fanned by a wind which at times gained a velocity of sixty miles, and were with difficulty prevented from spreading through the neighborhood, which consists of small frame cottages. |
