Show PATRONS OF S.L. LIBRARY GAINING Salt Lake City residents are reading read-ing more books and studying more maps than ever before, the annual report of Librarian Joanna H. Sprague revealed Thursday. ; The report was presented to the annual meeting of the Salt Lake public library board, of which Charles D. Smith Is president. In 1939, the report stated, 897,-270 897,-270 books, magazines, maps,' pamphlets and folios were circulated circu-lated from the main library and its four branches, a gain of 14,000 over 1938. Maps Popular One of the most popular sections of the library In the last four months of 1939 was the map and atlas room, where maps showing the latest changes In boundaries were eagerly sought. The picture department showed a gain of 6000 in the circulation of folios. An Increasing demand was noted for the "talking books" phonograph records for the blind. The library distributed 5436 "talking books" and Braille books In 1939. Budget Balanced The report showed the library's budget was balanced and that about the same sum as expended in 1939, f94,0O0, Is sought for this year. The report also recognized gifts of valuable books to the library from F. C. Schramm, E. D. N. Ed-holm, Ed-holm, and the Rotary club, and more than 200 bound volumnes of newspapers from The Salt Lake Tribune-Telegram. |
