Show Clearfield Man, 82, Fatally Injured Special to The Telegram CLEARFIELD, Jan. 4 Third traffic accident victim In Davis county this year, Jacob Granvil Cook, 82, died at St. Mark hospital hos-pital In Salt Lake City at 6:15 p. m. Wednesday of injuries suffered suf-fered when struck by an automobile automo-bile here at 2:30 p. m. Deputy Sheriff Calvin G. Robert said Mr. Cook apparently walked behind an automobile operated by John Sessions. 23, of Clearfield, that was backing away from the Ma bey inn on the east side of U. S. highway 91. . Mr. Sessions felt the car "strike something," stopped, got out and found Mr. Cook lying by the left rear wheel. Mr. Cook was taken to his home, but his condition grew worse and he was removed to the hospital. Dr. G. D. Rutledge of Kaysvllle said death probably was caused by Internal injuries. At first Mr. Cook did not appear to be seriously hurt. The mishap occurred about 22 feet off the highway pavement and at first it was thought not to be a traffic accident, apparently having occurred on private property. However, the state road commission commis-sion reported It had purchased strips alongside the highway, including in-cluding the ground on which the accident occurred, and now holds title to It as right-of-way for a project to widen U. S. highway 91. Ferrla H. Jones, head of the tax commission motor vehicle division, said that since the accident occurred on highway right-of-way and involved a moving motor vehicle. ve-hicle. It would be classed as a traffic fatality. Mr. Cook was born at Eaglevllle, Mo., on August 7. 1857, a son of John and Elizabeth Coffey Cook. He had resided at various times In Missouri and Nebraska, where he engaged In farming, and moved to Idaho In 1916. living at Poca-tello Poca-tello and Soda Springs. In 1921 he moved to Kaysvllle and in 1932 to Clearfield. He later spent three years in Ogden, but returned to Clearfield. Mr. Cook married Delia Jose- j phlne Hughes on August 22, 1883, at Malvern, Iowa. He was a member mem-ber of the I. O. O. F. lodge for 50 years. He Is survived by a son. Warren S. Cook, Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, daugh-ters, Mrs. B. M. Dickinson and Mrs. Tom Saunders, both of Ogden: Og-den: nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
