Conference ' More unification of churches, more religion among Americans, and return of prohibition were predicted pre-dicted by high Methodist churchmen church-men Who gathered In Salt Lake City Thursday to arrange the program pro-gram for a 10-day Methodist jurisdictional juris-dictional conference to be held la San Francisco In July. Nine members of the conference commission of the western jurisdiction, juris-diction, representing 10 western states, opened the meeting at 10 a. m. In the Hotel Utah under Bishop Bish-op James C Baker of Loa Angeles, chairman. During the one-day session, officials offi-cials expected to outline a program of business procedure, name speakers speak-ers and map an entertainment program pro-gram for the conference. Bishop Baker noted an Increase In religious Interest In Americans, particularly among college and university students. "The isms' are false forms of religion and, aa they are gradually overthrown, people will return to Christianity," he declared. Bishop W. E. Other prominent churchmen who attended the meeting included E. E. Collins of Billings, Mont, lay representative of the church; Blah-op Blah-op James H. Straughn of Portland, Ore.; Edward Laird Mills of San Francisco, editor of the Pacific edition Christian Advocate; Rev. W. H. Hertzog of Twin Falls. Idaho. Mr. Mills and the Rev Hertzog conferred during the day with the Rev. Robert D. Steele, president of Westminster college, on plans for the annual interdenominational conference to be held In Salt Lake City February 18 to 21. |
