Show District Leaders to Clash In State Prep Contests Four pairs of district leaders meet In this week's state high school basketball campaign. In concluding con-cluding the first month of play. This schedule sched-ule makes it certain that at least three of the state's 17 unbeaten I teams will tumble for the first time this season. I Contradicting advance information informa-tion on the Grand-San Juan district, dis-trict, Monticello came up with a 32-28 victory Saturday night over the highly touted San Juan squad of Blanding, to open that district's race. San Juan had previously compiled a long string ot preseason wins. In other Saturday games, Uintah downed Altamont 36-17, and Paro-wan Paro-wan defeated Cedar City 27-20, as expected. Parowan now holds third spot In the Dixie district, trailing the unbeaten Hurricane and Dixie teams, which do not meet until February 9, when Hurricane Invades In-vades St. George. On that date also, Uintah gets a chance to square matters with Roosevelt, on the Uintah home floor at Vernal. Roosevelt trounced the Utes, defending de-fending state basketball champs, to open the season two weeks ago. |
