Show PIONEER WOMAN, SON DIEIN DAY - A prominent Utah pioneer mother and her son, who died within a few hours of each other early Sunday, Sun-day, will b buried thi week in different cities. Shortly after a telegram had been sent to Dalin Clawson of New York City, nationally known motion picture pic-ture photographer, informing him of th .death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Jones Clawson, prominent civic and ioctrteadeTrSairtaRe City, a brief message was received that Mr. Clawson had died suddenly sud-denly at his New York home. Mrs. Clawson, 81, widow of Dr. Stanley Hastings Clawson, practicing practic-ing dentist In Utah for 66 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wendell M. 8moot, 1263 Gilmer Gil-mer drive, of causes Incident to age. Literary Leader A native of Salt Lake City, she was born July 2, ISM, a daughter of Rebecca Burton and Nathaniel V. Jones, a member of the Mormon Mor-mon battalion. She was graduated from the University of Deseret In 1875 and was married to Dr. Clawson Claw-son on September 5, 1878. Prominent in literary circles, she was on of the five organisers of the Wasatch Literary association in 1875 and 1878, and was a member of the first cast of the Home Dramatic" Dra-matic" club"orlhoM Salt La lee theater between 1880 and 1894. She was a charter member of th Cleo-fan Cleo-fan and honorary and charter member mem-ber of the Service Star" Legion. Sh was organiser of the Daughters Daugh-ters of th Mormon Battalion, and headed th commission which built the Mormon Battalion monument on the state capitol grounds. During Dur-ing the Spanish-American war ahe became a member of th newly organised or-ganised local Red Cross chapter. She was active In the Relief society, so-ciety, a member of the public library li-brary board for 13 years and a board member of the Sarah Daft horn. Funeral Tuesday She Is survived by four sons and a daughter, Elliott J. Clawson. Los Angeles; John S. Clawson. Cottonwood; Cotton-wood; Kingsley E. Clawson, Dr. Calvin C. Clawson and Mrs. Smoot, Salt Lake City: 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Seth and Charles Jones. Funeral services will be conducted conduct-ed Tuesday at 12:15 p. m. In the eighteenth L. D. S. ward chapel, second avenu and A street, by Bishop Thomas A. Clawson, a brother-in-law. Burial will be in the City cemetery. Friends may call at the Joseph William Taylor mortuary, 125 North Main street, Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a. m. Funeral services for Dallin Clawson Claw-son will be conducted Wednesday In New York City. Burial also will be In New York. Camera Honors i He waa born In Salt Lak City October 4. 1885, and as early as i 1906 established a reputation by , photographing scenes of the San Francisco fire. Traveling extensively, h was Interned In-terned In Russia at the outbreak of th World war. and was decorated deco-rated by former King Pram V of Siam for his photographa of national na-tional scenes. Surviving Mr. Clawson ar his widow, Mrs. Charlotte Clawson, and a son, Lawrence Dallin Clawson. His first wif. th late Mra. Hatel Hanson, was a Salt Lak City glrL Surviving also ar four brothers and a sister. ' |
