Problems of Erosion Control in Utah Sur- veyedrProjects Discussed Region officials of the soil conservation service concentrated in Salt Lake City Monday to discuss projects and inspect what has been done to save Utah agricultural land from the havoc of flood and erosion. , The officials, all from regional headquarters at Albuquerque, N. M., were H. G. Calkins', regional conservator; con-servator; M. E. Musgrave, In charge of erosion control practices; T. G. Taylor, in charge of woodland management; man-agement; Jack Lantow, in charge of range management; E. C Eaton, in charge of wild life management, and John Spencer and James Goodwin Good-win of the erosion control staff. Mr. Calkins praised the work in Utah of G. S. Quate, project manager, man-ager, and G. C. McClure, project engineer, especially for a unique terrace project running from the old "Mormon" trail in Emigration canyon to Mountain Dell. "The west face of the Wasatch mountain range presents a serious erosion problem," Mr. Calkins said, "which will take years to solve. But it can be solved with cooperation of federal agencies and residents." |
