Show A. B. C. Tourney Has 3500 Teams NEW YORK, Feb. S (INS) Entries were closed today for the thirty-seventh annual tournament of tha American Bowling congress, to be held here from March 10 to April 30. Approximately 3 5 0 0 five-man teams have been entered, compared with 2853 teams entered at Indianapolis Indian-apolis last year, the previous high record. Because of ths large number of competitors, the official Hit will not be completed until next week. Among the entrants were the Hi Bru team of Indianapolis, which won last year; the two-man team champions, Anthony Slanina and Max Straka of Chicago, and the all events champion, 21-year-old John Murphy of Indianapolis. Salt Lakers Get April 28-29 Date Salt Laka City's two team entries in the American Bowling congress at New York City the Western Opts and KDYL have been scheduled sched-uled to roll April 28 and 29, according accord-ing to word received by P. C Jensen Jen-sen from E. H. Baumgarten, secretary secre-tary of the A. B. C. Eleven Salt Lakers will make the trip. Two five-man squads will shoot their team games on the 28th and all 11 will participate in doublee and singles play the following day, when A. W. Smith, a former Salt Laker now living In New York City, will compete the sixth doubles team. The Opts team, sponsored by C N. Fehr, includes Jensen as captain. Fehr, Norm Shultz. Jack Quinn and Frank K. Baker. S. S. Fox la sponsoring spon-soring the KDYL group, which will include Albert Nelson, C. J. Butts. Herman Schettler, Mark Weiss and Chick Evans. Frank Guthrie, who had an 1181 series for five games in the state tournament Sunday, will be the eleventh elev-enth man, combining the bowling meet and a visit with his son, who Is a student at Fordham. |
