Show A. K. NICHOLSON EXPIRESJN N. Y. Angus Keep Nicholson, 62, former Salt Laka City newspaperman and veteran of the Spanish-American war, died In a veterans' hospital In New York Monoay at t p. m. after an illness of two years. A native of Salt Lake City, he was born In August, 1874, a son of John and Susannah Keep Nicholson. Prominent in the literary field, he was a reporter on ths old Salt Lake Herald staff 39 years ago under Edward Ivans, who was city editor at that time. He contributed also to "Goodwin's Weekly," edited by Judge C C. Goodwin, and "Truth," another local magasine. For a time he was active In the old Salt Lake Press club and was secretary sec-retary to former Congressman Clar-ence Clar-ence E. Allen. Enlisting with Battery A of the Utah volunteers in ths Spanish-American Spanish-American war, he left Salt Lake City with the detachment on January Jan-uary 29, 1898, for Manila. He was engaged in the first encounter and atayed until the laat. While In battery bat-tery A he was assigned to special duty'as sergeant's clerk under J. O. Nystrom, Salt Laka City resident. The battery Included Charles R. Mabey, former-governor, and other prominent Utahns. Mr. Nicholson later served on the gunboat Cava-donga. Cava-donga. Returning to Salt Lake City after the war, he was appointed deputy recorder In January, 1900, and later became chief deputy. He had been engaged In the brokerage brok-erage business in New York for many yeara, and retired from active business lifs after the Worlfl war. He Is survived by his widow, Mrs. A. K. Nicholson. New York City, and the following brothera and sisters: Mrs. F. W. Cope. Los Angeles; L. K. Nicholson, Mrs. Walter J. Eldridge, both of Salt Lake City; Mra.
