Show 10 TOOELE YOUTH DIES jlTCRASII TOOELE, Feb. t Knocked off the rear of a snow truck by a Tooele Valley railroad train, Claud Le-Roy Le-Roy Blackburn, 18, was killed out- right at a crossing within the city limits bar Monday afternoon. At aa Inquest, called by Sheriff Alma Whit In the evening, the death was held to be the result of an unavoidable accident. The youth, with' four other high school students, was riding the truck, driven by Lee Sham bow of Tooele, after they had helped push the vehicle out of the snowbank n Second West street. Whistle Sounded The truck was about to cross ths track on Vine street when the train, comprising an engine and caboose, sppesred, sounding ths whistle, according to Sheriff Whits. The truck had all but cleared the track preparatory to turning east on Vine street when the westbound train struck ths rear of ths vehicle, ve-hicle, from which the other boys had Jumped. The Blackburn boy was carried 150 feet under the engine's wheels, dying of bead injuries and a broken neck. The other students riding the truck were Clen Painter, 17; Al-vln Al-vln Anderson, 18; Ernest Garner, 18; and Donghts Colltmore, 12. The boy's body was taken to ths Smith funeral home pending funeral arrangements. He was born April 18, 1921. at Cedar Valley, son of Claud Pace Blackburn and Amy Elton Blackburn. Besides his parents par-ents ha Is survived by seven brothers broth-ers and sisters, Galyn, Mildred, Thelma, Ruth, Donna, Joan and Carol; a grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Blackburn of Long Beach, CaL, and two grandparents in Cedar City, Mr. and Mrs. William Elton. |
