Short, scholarly Chester Snow, native Salt Laksr, grandson of ths first two Mormons to enter this valley, la a physicist and mathsma-tlcian mathsma-tlcian of the national bureau of standards at Washington, D. C. Mr. Snow, born In Salt Laks City June 1, 1M1, a son of Wlllard and Dora Pratt Snow, was sducatsd at ths Utah State Agricultural college at Logan In 1 902 -pi. He later enrolled en-rolled at Harvard university, where he obtained his A B. degree In 190. He hsd ths distinction of graduating "magna cum lauds" of his class. Hs then went west to Provo as head of Brlghem Young university's physics department serving until 112. Two years later he was named a fellow In physics at ths Univsrsity of Wisconsin, which awarded him hie Ph.D. degree. From July. 1M4, to March, 1220, he was professor of mathematics and head of the physics department of the University of Idsho. The United States government called on him several times during ths World war to assist In ths perfection of mechanical equipment equip-ment at the San Diego, CaL, navy yards. Meanwhlls hs married ths former Mlse May Maughan of Logan, sister of Major Russell B. Maughan, Utah-bora Utah-bora aviator who was the first "dawn - to dusk" transcontinental flier. Mr. Snow Is a grandson of Orson Pratt and Erastus Snow, who headed head-ed the Mormon party, arriving a day ahead of Brigham Young and his colonisers In Salt Laks valley. His mother, six brothers and three alstsrs, each of whom has attained prominence in the field of education, educa-tion, business or finance, still reside here.
