Show HIGH SCHOOL SCRIBES BUSY ON CONTEST HOKACE MANN HIGH ESSAYISTS IN HUDDLE Betty Thomas, left, Brent Bond, Fred Otasua Tryouts Are Set in Patriotic Essay Competition Patriotism will surge to new levels lev-els this week In Salt Lake City high schools as dates for finals of the annual Service Star Legion essay contests were announced Tuesday. J. B. Morston, contest chairman, said that tryouts will be held at 9:19 a. m. Wednesday at ths Jackson Jack-son high school; Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Horace Mann high school; Friday at 8 a. m. at ths Irving and Bryant high schools; 10 a. m. at Roosevelt high school, and 10:45 a. m. at Jordan high school Preliminary winners already have been selected by English teachers at individual schools. It is estimated that more than 3000 students originally entered the patriotic essay contest, winners of which received dictionaries last year. Similar prizes will be awarded this year, Mr. Moreton said. The winning essay from each school will be read at the next monthly meeting of the legion at 2 p. m. February 15 in Memorial house, Memor nark. |
