OSBORNE Hsvs you ever heard yourself say, almost before your youngster young-ster has gotten inside the door, "Hang up your coat and hat. dear, won't youT" It's something some-thing that s lot of parents do this business of prematura checking up on their youngsters. Probably we do It thinking that we'll have ourselves and ths child s lot of trouble If we remind him what he should do right at the time he should be doing It But the effect Is bad on most children. Perhaps at times, they will ferop the coat, forget to clean up1 after themselves, them-selves, or otherwise not carry out what we expeet of them. But they resent the hasty checkup. There's little question but that a chsnge in our timing will bring better results. Leaving responsibility respon-sibility up to the youngsters not hastily reminding them of things to be done and then very quietly suggesting that things need to be tended to if they do neglect them is a better approach. ap-proach. Naturally, one cannot expect a 100 splc and span house all ths time or s youngster that never neglects s responsibility. But the emotional atmosphere, the friendly warm feeling, that comes from s change in our timing will far outweigh the disadvantages |
