Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE By Telegram Readers 'Half-Hearted' Holidays Held Big Inconvenience Editor, Telegram: Somebody ought to let the management of Salt Lake City Lines know that, while stores, banks snd government govern-ment offices had a holiday on Armistice day, the schools and the university operated as usual. The bus company for some reason went on a holiday schedule sched-ule Armistice day, although there waa still a great deal of travel to town. It was hard enough on regular bus customers who in msny instsnces waited as much as hslf an hour for a bus, but It was really tough on the' school kids. Msny of them were late to classes because of the change in schedules. I ll admit it's a little hard for the bus company to decide Just where it stands on such s halfhearted half-hearted holiday si Armistice day. Is it a holiday or isn't it T If it is. let's make the observance observ-ance citywide, close up schools, offices of all kinds and really take the day off.' If it isn't going to be that kind of a holiday, holi-day, then let's forget it. The trouble with our holiday situation is that there sre entirely en-tirely too many so-called "legal" hniiriuva which are observed only by banks and government employes. It is time for congress con-gress to give attention to the holiday problem and establish a sensible, fair system of holidays which everyone could observe. There Is no justification in a holiday which ia a day off, for instance, for liquor' store employes, em-ployes, but not for the ordinary taxpayers who pay. the liquor store employes' salaries. We ought to eliminste s lot of these legal holidays and let the bank clerks snd the politicians politi-cians work on them like anybody else. H. F.. Salt Lake. |
