V. h t f f Ciiy, County Okeh Project for Flood, Control Salt Lake City and county commissioners com-missioners met together Friday to draft a letter to the U. S. army engineers, Bacramento, Cal., advising advis-ing them of the approval of a modified modi-fied flood j control project which would divert flood waters of the Jordan river to an enlarged surplus canal, rather than attempting to dredge and straighten the river channel. Flood gates would be Installed at 21st South to control the -level of the river and prevent annual flooding of lowlands when the river becomes swollen by runoff from the canyons which drain into the Jordan, the commissioners said. The original proposal of the army engineers, which would have cost approximately 11,000,000, had been approved by congress, but no funds had been authorized. The new plan, approval of which will be sought, will cost approximately the same, but will provide better control of I flood waters and will not disturb present industrial and Irrigation jwater use along the river, lt was pointed out |
