Show SOS of Freighter Heard in Halifax NEW YORK, Dec. 27 UP The coast guard said Friday that the marine' radio at Halifax had intercepted inter-cepted an S O S message from the small British freighter S. S. Thackeray, Thack-eray, which said it was aground and was being pounded heavily by seas one-half mile west of Outer Cat island, near Argentla, Newfoundland. New-foundland. Newfoundland railroad owners have sent one of their Icebreakers, the S. S. Kyle, to the rescue, the coast guard said. There was no Indication how many persons were aboard the British vessel. |
